Photographer 3

Lincoln Clarke
I have chosen Lincoln Clarke as one of my photographers as i find his project eye opening and very inspirational. He focused on the women of Vancouver who were addicted to drugs. He took a 5  year journey through the streets of Vancouver in which he grew close to the women he was photographing. Several women died during his project either from addiction or from a serial killer called Robert Pikton who had the remains of at least 5 women which were found on his farm. Clarke's project included over 300 women whom he spoke to and captured their natural expressions in his work. His work captures good evidence of addiction and the effects that it has on women.

This is a photograph showing three friends who were all suffering from heroin addiction, one of these girls eventually ended up going missing. I like this photograph because it captures the despair on their faces. It shows how draining that the life they live can be.

This is a photograph of a young woman who is so high off drugs that she is just sitting on a trolley on the sidewalk staring into space. This is capturing the effects that drugs have on people. This gives a greater insight into the effects that drugs have and how people react to  them.

This woman was led to drugs and prostitution after the death of her son, she waits for clients outside the funeral home. This gives us an insight into her life as the background it is showing the reasons why she is doing what she is doing.

In this photograph the woman who has been captured is showing such a great sad and despaired emotion. I like this photograph because it is simple in showing such a powerful emotion. It suggests that she feels this way due to her addiction to such powerful drugs which have consequently ruined her life.

I feel his work has influenced me as i would like to try and take photographs of how one thing can have such a drastic effect on someone's life. All of these photographs are captured in black and white as they capture the emotion and feeling of the others, this is an element which i would like to incorporate into my work.

In summary i like his work as it has a moral behind it, there's a story behind every photograph which i feel adds a deep and meaningful purpose behind his work. His work captures the raw emotion of the models he uses and i feel this would be something i would like to try and incorporate into my work when using models as it gives a deeper and more emotive aspect of the images.

Photographer 2

Adam Mork
Adam is a Danish architectural photographer and i have picked him as one of my photographers as i like the way he captures the different and creative structures of buildings. I feel his work is good evidence of architecture but it can also reflect the creativity of the architect behind the building.

This is one of his photographs it is showing a slanted building with a bright circle at the bottom. The building is slanted, and i like the way that the time of day where it is not too dark or light so that the lights inside and outside the building illuminate the photograph.

This photograph is of several  flights of stairs and i like the angle he has captured it so that you can see all the different layers of the stairs as they overlap and cross over/under each other which creates a maze like effect.

I like this photograph as it is showing a building being reflected in a lake. I like this effect because it shows the uniqueness of the building as well as using the formal element of reflection. It shows that the architect behind it is creative as the building is not similar to many others so it is reflecting their personality within the buildings they are designing.

His photographs have inspired me because i feel the way he captures the amazing architecture of several different photographs is unique. I would like to take this style of photography into my own style when focusing on buildings or objects.

In summary Adam Mork has captured a wide variety of abstract buildings in abstract views as it shows us a side we would never usually see / look for when looking at buildings. I like the way his work shows the uniqueness of some buildings.

Work Diary - Shoot 8

In this shoot i wanted to create photographs similar to that of Bobby Adams. I have taken a self portrait using a timer on the camera which was on a tripod in the studio and went out on location to shoot the portraits of my models against a plain background.

These are some of the photographs of my models, i took several different images so that when i get the  pictures of them at a younger age i will have a selection of photographs for me to choose from which is closest to that of the younger image. If none are similar i will take my models into the studio to reshoot the photographs.

Work Diary - Shoot 7

In this shoot i went out and looked at different feminine objects. I thought that this was fairly easy but i wanted to go with a theme so i decided to just focus on magazines and i thought 'Vouge' would fit the theme well as it focus on fashion which i thought seemed very feminine.

This is one of the photographs that i took, i liked how the words 'vogue' on the spine of the magazine are in focus and the other words are blurred out. However there is several different things in the background which take away the effect and focus of the image. If i was to re-shoot this i would place the magazines against a plainer background.

This is another photograph that i took, it is showing my model reading a magazine but i do not like the angle of it as it cuts of half the magazine and therefore it does not show the overall effect of someone reading a magazine.

Progression; In my next session i am going to take photographs inspired by Bobby Adams so i will need to start off by taking portrait pictures of my models and then when they bring in portraits of them as young children and then i will place them next to each other so it is easy to show the age difference. This is an example of his work and this is what i wish to do with my work.

Photographer 1

Bobby Adams
I have picked Bobby Adams as one of my photographers as i feel he shows the effects of ageing and he shows the similarities between  the genetic material of different generations. I feel his work is showing a good contrast of young and old and it is evidence of ageing.

This photograph is showing Bobby himself at a later stage in his life compared to a photograph from when he is younger. He physically rips photographs and glues them together. He then puts the pictures together to recreate the original face.

This is another approach Bobby takes, this is one of his photographs showing two women from the same bloodline. I like the way he shows the contrast of the old woman directly with the young woman. It is showing the evidence of ageing as it is showing what the younger woman will most probably look like when she is that age also.

This is another photograph which is showing the same person but at a young age and again at a later stage in life. Again this shows a great contrast between young and old and it shows the effect of ageing on one person over their life course.

This photograph is of two people of a similar age whose photographs have been put together, to show the difference between genders and how they age, this shows a good example of evidence of how different genders age.

His work has influenced me because i feel his work is a good evidence of the life experience of ageing. I like the way it shows two different people at different or similar ages next to each other or the same person at different stages of their life. I feel that this is something that i would like to do myself as i feel it ties in well with the topic of life experience which is something that i would like to focus on.

In summary i feel that i would like to try and create images similar to Bobby as it provides a great way of showing contrast between age and genetics, I feel this would be good for the life experience side of my project. I like Bobby's work as it is a creative way of showing the contrast which i feel can be used to show many other contrasting items such as eye colour, gender etc.

Work Diary - Shoot 6

In this session i focused on feminine and masculine objects, i struggled to capture many for the masculine side so instead i made a multiple image.

This is my multiple image of a motorbike i found on the college campus.  I decided to take it from several different angles in order to gain a different prospectus of the motorbike.

This is a photograph of my makeup storage, i feel this photograph is very feminine as makeup and the storage of it is very feminine. I feel that some of my photographs would've come out better but due to the indoor location i had to make as much light as i could.

Progression - In my next session i would like to go out on location again and this time focus on the differences in clothing between the different types of people, both feminine, masculine, individuality or the trends that are current right now.

Work Diary - Shoot 5

In this session i focused on female and male portraits. I thought this was a good starting point for my life experience topic. I went in the studio and used my own camera as it connected to the lights we have in the studio. However all of the photographs that i took came out extremely dark and after changing both the settings on the camera and on the actual lights there was not much difference.

I edited the curves and levels on Photoshop and this brightened up the photographs.

This photograph of my female model, i feel this is a good photograph as even after it had been brightened it still has no shadowing and shows the formal element of from very well. I captured her facial expression and her hair as i feel it shows her sex extremely well.

However this photograph of my male model did not turn out so good, due to the shadow behind his head, however the shadow on his face shows a good form of his bone structure.

Progression; In my next shoot i will focus on feminine and masculine items as i feel it will show the difference within the types of things that different genders own and use. This is a photograph similar to that which i would like to take especially for femininity as i feel that high heels are a femminine object due to the shape etc.

Work Diary - Shoot 4

In this shoot i went out to shoot photographs of damaged buildings. I felt this shoot was fairly simple due to the locations surrounding the college.
This photograph is showing a building site where they are fixing or adding to a building. I thought this picture represented the damage of the building as it shows they are in the process of making it better. It shows the danger sign which shows that they are doing majorly altering this building so they need to section it off from the public.

This is a photograph which is showing a broken fence covered in an overgrown plant which is revealing a wall behind it. This is showing that this fence has been damaged or vandalised. I like this photograph as it is showing a variety of different surfaces like the wood, the bricks and the plant.

Progression; I have decided that i would like to focus on life experience as i feel that it is an interesting route to follow. In my next shoot i will be looking at male and females as i feel it is a good starting point for the topic.
This photograph is similar to the style that i wish to follow, i will be looking at the faces and clothing of different female/male models to gain an insight onto the different ways femininity/masculinity can be shown.
